Fundraising for Bassingbourn Parish Church

Bible Reading Marathon

Bassingbourn Parish Church has recently had a major fundraising drive in order to pay for essential repairs to the roof of this historic building. Many events were held, ranging from a Street Market to the Big Village Gig, and from the Bible Reading Marathon to an organ recital.

As well as being held to raise money, all of these events had the additional benefits of involving people from the village who haven't had much of an involvement with the Church before. For instance, more than 250 people participated in the Bible Reading Marathon.

We are now delighted to be able to say that the £175k cost of this project has been funded from a variety of sources, not just our events but also support from English Heritage, various trust funds and donations from the congregation and wider village. We are still negotiating the details of the English Heritage funding and final cost of the contract, which was finished before Christmas 2006, will not be known exactly until December 2007, but at this stage we can say that almost all (if not all!) of the funds have been raised.
